A Powerful Partnership
St1 Biokraft is a joint venture between St1, HitecVision, and Aneo, combining expertise and resources to foster innovation in the biogas sector. Our aim is to become a leading integrated biogas provider in the Nordics, making a significant contribution to the energy transition. We cover the entire biogas value chain – from feedstock sourcing to production, certification, trading, distribution, and end-user sales – with a target of 3 TWh biomethane production and 6 TWh biomethane sales by 2030, focusing on heavy transport, maritime, and industrial applications.
Over 1 billion EUR is being invested in biogas infrastructure across the Nordics to support this ambitious growth. Certification and regulatory compliance are central to this expansion – and that’s where you come in.
Shape the Future of Sustainable Energy – Sustainability Compliance Lead
As our Sustainability Compliance Lead, you will play a vital role in ensuring that St1 Biokraft’s biogas production and trading activities adhere to all relevant EU directives (RED III), national laws, and certification schemes. This is a practical, hands-on operational role that impacts every part of the business – from our production sites to our trading teams and strategic partners in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Together with your colleagues in the sustainability team, you will drive the development of certification processes and support new business opportunities through deep regulatory expertise. The role is based in Stockholm and reports to the Head oSustainability.
Your Responsibilities
Ensure Compliance and Drive Process Excellence
- Ensure compliance with EU and Swedish sustainability laws and certification schemes (e.g., RED III, ISCC, SPCR, Redcert) for biogas and biofertiliser.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Manage reporting to the Swedish Energy Agency and other relevant authorities.
- Continuously enhance internal processes and control systems to comply with regulatory requirements.
Empower the Organization
- Provide training and guidance throughout the company on sustainability criteria and certification requirements.
- Collaborate closely with production, trading, logistics, and export teams to ensure a seamless compliance strategy across the entire value chain.
- Actively support certification efforts in our Nordic markets, especially in Finland and Norway.
Enable Growth Through Regulation
- Contribute to new business opportunities by analysing legislation and finding ways to utilise regulatory frameworks.
- Ensure biogas trading and export adhere to all sustainability standards and reporting requirements.
- Serve as a key adviser to management on how sustainability policy developments impact strategic decisions.
What We’re Looking For
You likely possess a university degree (BSc or MSc) in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related scientific field. You bring substantial experience in sustainability certification for biogas, regulatory audits, and reporting, preferably from working with schemes such as ISCC or REDcert. You have a solid understanding of the EU Renewable Energy Directives (RED II/RED III) and can navigate complex legislative texts with ease. Professional fluency in Swedish and English is essential.
Merits That Matter
- Experience with EU voluntary certification systems (e.g., ISCC, REDcert)
- Background in biogas or energy trading and export
- Knowledge of Finnish certification systems
- Experience with biofertiliser certification
Who You Are
You are analytical and well-organised, with a strong sense of responsibility. You combine regulatory awareness with business insight and are confident in taking the lead in complex and evolving environments. You communicate clearly and assertively – with the ability to both support and challenge the organisation to do the right thing.
Why St1 Biokraft?
At St1 Biokraft, sustainability is more than just a department – it’s the core of our business. In this role, your work will directly impact our ability to operate, expand, and innovate within the renewable energy sector.
