A Powerful Partnership
St1 Biokraft is a joint venture between St1, HitecVision, and Aneo, combining expertise and resources to drive innovation in the Biomethane sector. Our goal is to become the leading integrated Biomethane provider in the Nordics, playing a vital role in the energy transition. We encompass the entire value chain – from feedstock sourcing to distribution and end-user sales – with a strong emphasis on heavy transport, maritime, and industrial sectors.
To support this ambitious growth, we are investing over EUR 1 billion in Biomethane production and distribution infrastructure across the Nordics, with several large-scale projects already in progress.
Project Development Manager, St1 Biokraft
St1 Biokraft is expanding. Our goal is clear: to become the leading integrated biomethane provider in the Nordics. To achieve this, we’re making significant investments in new production capacity across the Nordics and Northern Europe, and we’re looking for a motivated Project Development Manager to help us turn opportunities into viable, profitable biogas projects.
This is not a desk-based coordination role. It’s a practical, business-focused position where you’ll identify new locations, evaluate their feasibility, establish trust with local stakeholders, and drive projects from initial concept to investment decision.
We believe great projects begin well before a shovel hits the ground. Want to help shape them?
About the Role
As Project Development Manager, you’ll lead the initial phases of new biomethane production projects – whether greenfield, brownfield, or support to acquisitions – with a clear mandate: to identify the right opportunities, develop the business case, and advance them to the point where they are ready for construction.
You’ll work closely with internal experts and external partners, navigating everything from site identification, permitting and local stakeholder dialogue to commercial models and early technical concepts. You’ll often manage several projects in parallel, in different stages of maturity, with a high degree of autonomy.
It’s an entrepreneurial and collaborative role – where strong structure meets open terrain, and where each project brings new realities to adapt to.
You will:
- Lead early-stage development of biomethane production projects
- Identify and assess new opportunities (including technical and commercial viability)
- Drive stakeholder dialogue with municipalities, landowners, farmers and local communities
- Collaborate with technical experts and operations to define the plant’s scope and shape the optimal technical and process concept.
- Lead or participate in negotiations with key suppliers, contractors and consultants – including technology vendors and plant design providers.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and ensure proper follow-up and reporting.
- Shape and optimise business cases, in collaboration with internal experts
- Secure permits and plan for infrastructure, feedstock sourcing and nutrient flows
- Manage consultants and development partners
- Prepare decision materials and steer projects through St1 Biokraft’s gated investment process.
- Ensure handover to the execution team is structured and complete.
What You Bring
We’re seeking a proactive doer with strong project management skills and the ability to work independently—while maintaining control over structure and the bigger picture. You’re likely accustomed to juggling multiple projects simultaneously and enjoy both practical fieldwork and commercial analysis.
You will succeed here if you:
- Have 3–5 years of experience from project development in biogas or a related field (e.g. energy, agri-tech, waste or infrastructure)
- Are comfortable with business case modelling and identifying the value levers in a project
- Understand the value of local anchoring and can communicate credibly with farmers, industries, landowners, officials and community stakeholders.
- Enjoy autonomy, but work well with internal experts (technical, legal, business, sustainability)
- Speak fluent Swedish and English (German or Polish is a plus)
You probably have a background in engineering, business, or environmental sciences – but more importantly, you understand what it means to build something from scratch and have the judgment to know when to push forward, when to listen, and when to reframe.
What We Offer
This is a chance to shape the future of biomethane production in Northern Europe within one of St1 Biokraft's most dynamic teams. You’ll work with high-impact projects, a fast-growing organisation, and a clear mission – all backed by long-term investors with strong industrial roots. Are you ready to develop the projects that power the green transition?
